JPHRacing.com reports on the NBRCC Winter Series event #5, "Under the 101" in Santa Rosa, CA.

The NBRCC Club had to make a quick call and go to plan B, when the spot originally picked for this Comp turned into a stream full of water ...  The spot below Lake Berryessa will be used again during the summer months, but as it turns out is unusable in winter.  So, plan B ended up being our favorite spot, "Under the 101" in Santa Rosa.  "Under the 101" is well used, but this spot never lets us down.  The courses were a nice mix, challenging yet all were completed during the day.

C1 might have been the easiest of the day, but still featured some technical crawling, a tight wedge section and an uphill climb to the final gate.

C2 was all about time management.  This course had a tricky start, and just seemed to be a time warp right from the get go.  The upper section, gates 3, 4 ,5 all used up so much time most guys were done by gate 6.  For those who made it further, gate 6 was easy, but 7, 8 and 9 were tricky and finished off a bunch of guys.  The crawling on this course was technical!

C3 was the fun one.  The start was a bridge, up onto a rock section that did not look tough, but if you got it wrong it was in a major way.  On the course, 3 near vertical drops had drivers testing their descending skills.  There was a bonus line that only a few tried.  Not overwhelming tough to look at, but tight and technical, most drivers opting not to risk the penalty points and were just happy finishing the course.

The weather held out nicely for us, with only some minor periods of drizzle.  Since most of the courses were under the freeway, only C1 (and a little of C3) had wet rocks at times.

The turnout was light for an NBRCC comp, 46 entries in all.  This is huge by some standards, but I'm sure the threat of wet weather and location change kept the drivers home, warm and dry.

When all was said and done, Bryan Crofts came out on top with a major negative score, -49!  Travis Crockett pulled in a 2nd place finish and Dan Bonivicin placed 3rd.  Joe Donnel and Dean Hall rounded out the Top 5.  Well done guys!!

We all know these events are volunteer based and without the dedication of those who help out, they would not be possible.  So, a big thanks goes out to Peter, Dean, Mike, Tim, Bryan, Dan, Jake and the many others that helped make this event possible.
