What do you get when you mix and awesome scaler spot + almost 40 scale rigs + more than 30 scaler enthusiasts?  You get an NBRCC Scaler Comp!

The first real Scaler GTG/Comp for 2010 was held on Sunday, August 29^th, at Flat Rock in Santa Rosa.  The North Bay RC Crawlers Club, their Scaler Crew and JPH, teamed up to have a full on Scaler Event.  And, it was AWESOME!

I was shocked at the amount of cool rigs that showed up.  Drivers from as far as Sacramento, Lake County and even Santa Rosa showed their support.  The hardware had all kinds of cool, homemade, bolt on, fabbed or pre-fabbed, coolness.  The pics turned out well, but in person the rigs were just that much cooler …

Thanks to some hard work by Tim Terry and the NBRCC Scaler Crew, Flat Rock was cleaned up and transformed into an even more awesome scaler spot.  The Crew opened up new areas, new lines, and expanded Flat Rock to almost double its original size!

Charlie Suangka worked out the details for the scoring.  Coming up with score cards, score method (based on the uber simple, Prather System .  The score method is based on time, not so much on  penalties.) and split it into two classes.  There were 1.9 Scalers and EX-Truck.  1.9 was for the standard 1.9 rim and tire version of a scale truck, and EX-Truck was for 2.2 clad, semi comp rigs with scale chassis but allowing dig and rear steer. 

Everyone present seemed to have a great time.  The courses were well laid out and challenging.  The scoring resulted in a tie for first, which showed how close the scaler scene is getting.  But, the fun was evident, very much like comp crawling was in the early days.  As a spectator, I really enjoyed watching the rigs, checking out the craftsmanship, and watching the enthusiastic fun everyone was having.

Congrats to the Top 5 in the 1.9 Class!  (not sure what happened to the EX-Truck results?)
