Another gloomy day was in store for the racers who showed up at the Wine Country Flyers field looking for a day of pylon racing.  The clouds never cleared and most of us thought there would be some rain at some point during the day.  As luck would have it, no drops came down and only one plane was damaged during the races.  Anthony McDonald's Spitfire lost it's tail half during a rough landing.  Other than that, there were no racing casualties.

The turnout was on the light side, but the racing was still close and intense as always.  There were 9 T-28 / Corsair class entries and 6 in the Reno 450 Class.  I think Steve Cole won the Reno 450 class?  He was flying a new P-51 and made it through all practice flights AND the races without hitting a pylon!  The new plane is on rails and will be a tough one to beat!

I think Anthony McDonald came away with the win in the T-28 / Corsair class.  His consistent finishes gained him the most points in the class.  It was interesting racing with 4 and 5 planes in a heat race.  Things get very close very quickly and I'm surprised there were no accidents.

Points have not been totaled since the race before last, so I'm unsure of the standings or how everyone came into this race day?  I'm sure they will get posted soon, so keep your eye on www.wcflyers.com for the official run down.

There's only two more races left in the 2011 Series, October 16th and November 20th.  If you can get out to watch a race, you better do so soon.  Or, better yet, grab a plan and come out to participate in a race!
