No rain, no storms, no problems, it was a little chilly, but the Warm-Up race was a great way to start the 2013 season for the Ground Pounder Club.

 

The turnout was on the light side, I'm guessing many racers were just not prepared (mentally or equipment wise) for an early start to the season.  March is always the Warm-Up race, but for some reason this year it just seemed like it sprung up on me, feeling like it all is starting too early in the year?  All that being said, it turned out to be a very enjoyable day!

 

There are some changes to the GP Club classes for 2013.  Some new additions and some rule changes effecting a few classes.  Check out the GP website for the current rules (should be amended and posted late March)  www.thegroundpounders.com

 

Two new classes were run at the Warm-Up Race.  Spec Rally and Slash 55 Bomber.  Spec Rally was based off the new 1/10 scale Rally car from Traxxas and ran the same course as the Stock Slash Class (on-road, with jumps).  The brushless horsepower really made it a drivers class, as too much throttle rewarded the driver with a spin out.  Jumping was challenging, but added to the fun.  The Rally cars are large for 1/10th scale, so they really showed up well on the track.

 

Slash 55 Bomber is another spec style class based off the Traxxas 2wd Slash.  Parma '55 Chevy bodies are used and this class races on the oval track.  The cars were very evenly matched with the limited changes allowed.  Speed was decent, and it all came down to driver patience and not over driving in the turns.  Easier said than done!  This looks to be a great mid level oval class, and I can't wait to see more entries and a full field!

 

F1 went to rubber tires for 2013, and 21.5 BL motors.  The class will hopefully see renewed interest this season.  Many drivers were caught building cars or waiting on equipment to show, so expect a larger turnout next race.

 

17.5NR Sedans had a good turnout and some fast drivers on the stand.  Looks like this will be the biggest on-road class again this season.

 

Novice classes had new faces and plenty of fun.  Kids are showing up again at the GP events, so please spread the word and let's get more out there enjoying the fun of r/c racing.
